Dear All,
As you will be aware the “Save Our Parks” campaign has been running since last year in the East Pollokshields ward where planning applications were lodged for development on Turtle Park (Forth Street/Leslie Street) and Stepping Stones Park (Keir Street/Leslie Street).
…

The Leslie Street Greenspaces Group considers these parks valuable greenspaces which should not be built on. Our primary aim is to stop any building, and our secondary aim is to see the spaces improved through a well planned and executed community project.
We are delighted to announce success at a critical milestone in our campaign. At Tuesday’s meeting (15th Jan 2008) of the Planning Applications Committee has refused permission for the application lodged for development on Stepping Stones Park (Keir St/Leslie St, ref 07/02937/DC).
The refusal report also contains a commitment by the Council to work with the applicants to find a suitable site for their proposals.
This is a tremendous result for East Pollokshields – the voice of the people has been heard and also there is a beacon of light with regard to greenspace retention.
As previously mentioned, there were originally 2 planning applications submitted. The application for Turtle Park (Forth Street/Leslie Street) was withdrawn by the applicant shortly after being lodged, with a stated intention of re-submitting a fresh application at a later date. This application has not yet been re-submitted.
The Leslie Street Greenspaces Group is absolutely committed to protecting all of the greenspaces on Leslie Street and will challenge and campaign against any future planning applications that are submitted in respect to these spaces. We would welcome any support you would be able to offer if these circumstances were to arise.
The secondary aim of the Leslie Street Greenspaces Group is to see the spaces improved through a well planned and executed community project. Before a full consultation and funding search can proceed, the Leslie Street Greenspaces group will be ensuring that all 3 of the Leslie Street Greenspaces have the maximum level of protection possible within the Council.
We, the Leslie Street Greenspaces Group, would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped with the Save Our Parks campaign so far – from letter writing to the council, to raising awareness and any other assistance you may have provided.
What we have achieved so far has been the result of a lot of hard work from people right across the community.
Soon, we will be making a push for suggestions about how the community would like to see the Leslie Street Greenspaces improved. This will be part of our community consultation phase. If you would like to make a suggestion now, please send this in an email to lesliestreetgreenspaces@gmail.com.
Once again, thanks.
Best Regards
Leslie Street Greenspaces Group
